Organic Baby Clothing- The Ethical Choice
There are many reasons why organic Baby Clothes are ethically superior to baby clothes made in the conventional, non-organic way. First of all, clothing made in the organic fashion is made from organically grown textiles. This means that the earth is not overly damaged through pesticides and fertilizers. Also, the organically grown plants, such as hemp, wool, and cotton, are grown in a way that does not drain the soil of needed nutrients. The microorganisms that dwell in the rich topsoil are also not damaged like they are in conventional farming. What this means is that the small, local ecosystem where the plants are grown is not damaged and unbalanced by earth destroying, unethical farming techniques. With the base of the ecosystem intact, many insects and animals can continue to live and thrive without being poisoned or killed. Since organic clothes come from these sustainable practices, and these practices protect earth, insects, and animals, they are more ethical than conventional baby clothes.
Also, Organic Baby Clothes are much better for your baby. Babies have very sensitive skin that can be inflamed by the many fire-retardant chemicals used by non-organic clothing producers. Many organic clothes are dyed using herbal solutions rather than chemical solutions. The herbs that are used can have many medicinal properties and will ensure that your baby will literally wear his or her health. So, not only are the damaging chemicals that regular Baby Clothing often contains avoided, but there are positive health benefits to the organic way of doing things. There is very little more ethical than promoting the health of your young baby, after all, and this is another situation where organic is far superior to conventional clothing.
Since you will be holding your baby in their clothing, it is also beneficial for you to have your young one in organic baby clothes. The herbal dyes will rub off on you and improve your health in minor ways. If it isn’t ethical to improve your own health and wellbeing, then I truly do not know what is! Then, there is the factor of production. Without the damaging chemicals in the factories where clothing is made, the work environment is much safer for the workers. This means the workers are healthier and less prone to illness. This is also ethical.
These are all small steps in the right direction. By healing the ecosystems where textiles are grown, decreasing the amounts of chemicals that workers are exposed to, and ensuring the health of you and your baby, baby clothes that are produced organically are far more ethical than regular baby clothing. It heals our global environment and the many people, insects, and animals that live in it.
