The Benefits Of Organic Food
Many diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure, heart diseases and other ailments at least in part are linked to bad food choices which can be avoided. You might not have thought about it,but every time you opt for a food or drink be it a meal or snack or a beverage, it affects your health positively or negatively.
The presence of high amounts of contaminants present in our food such as residues of pesticides, herbicides, additives and other chemical toxins is very unhealthy. The lengthy discussions on television channels about these contaminants during the production process,or about the ill effects of genetically modified plants and food irradiation are enough to have a depressing effect on us.
The prevailing intensive farming methods make it necessary to use high quantities of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides to boost production. Intensive farming methods are used on animals and birds to increase milk, meat and egg production. There are also chemicals used as preservatives for increasing the shelf life of the food products.
Small quantities of these toxins get into our system when we consume them and accumulate in our system over a period of time. Add to this the pollution of air we breathe and our bodies become the store house of these toxins.
Studies conducted in the United Kingdom show that babies in UK are affected by more than 350 chemical toxins through breast milk. The immediate effects are harsher on vulnerable people like children, elderly and the babies in the womb but may not visibly affect adults.
If you want to avoid the toxins present in the normal food, you must consider buying organic food which is more healthy and wholesome compared to normal food. So be mindful of the harmful nasty chemicals hiding inside that enticing dish or drink before you consume.
The production of organic food is governed by strict rules to benefit the consumer. It is done by avoiding harmful agrochemical inputs that endanger the environment and wild life. Organic farming is a system wherein the food production is done by shunning the use of harmful synthetic chemicals such as herbicides, fungicides and other toxic synthetic substances.

A parents guide to vitamins for babies and children – Part 1
A Parent’s Guide to Vitamins for Babies and Children
Parents are always wondering when to give their children vitamins and some wonder if they should use vitamins at all. The fact is that vitamins are a necessity for the body to function normally. But, what many parents do not understand is that children do not need vitamin supplements every day.
Mothers who are breast feeding can be assured that their babies are receiving an adequate amount of every vitamin needed except for vitamin D. Breast milk does not have a lot of vitamin D so it needs to be supplemented. Sunlight is one way to receive vitamin D but not many babies have access to this form of supplement. It is suggested that mothers introduce small amounts of commercial infant formulas which are known to contain an adequate amount of vitamin D.
Parents who have a child who is over the age of nine months, and is feeding them whole milk, will need to supplement vitamin C instead of vitamin D. Whole milk contains an adequate amount of vitamin D. Parents should provide vitamin C supplements until their child is eating fruits an vegetables.
Once a child turns the age of one their diet should include food from each of the four food groups. Eating a variety of foods from the four food groups is very important for the health and wellbeing of children. This also means that parents usually will not have to add extra vitamins and supplements to their children’s diet.

Are YOU Killing Your Baby?
Are YOU Killing Your Baby?
Pretty harsh title isn’t it! Most of us parents make it a daily priority to keep our children safe from all sorts of hazards. We worry about the food they are eating, the beverages they drink, and if they are warm enough or cool enough. We teach them about not talking to strangers and how to cross a street safely. We teach them the hazards of drugs, smoking and drinking. But, even if you do all this, you could still be killing your child!
A couple very common preservatives found in baby shampoo are imidozlidinyl urea and diazolidinyl urea. These can cause dermatitis. Cosmetic talc is carcinogenic and is found in baby powders. Talc based powder has been linked to ovarian cancer! Propylene Glycol is reported to have SEVERE adverse effects on the health; dermatitis, allergies, kidney and liver damage to name a few. These are found in baby products such as wipes and lotions. Sodium Laurel, Lauryl or Laureth Sulfate, sodium dodecyl sulfate are skin irritants and reported as being toxic. They have a tendency to react with other ingredients to form carcinogenic nitrosamines. Studies have shown that these chemicals penetrate the eyes, heart, liver and brain. This is the main ingredient in shampoos, baby shampoos, and toothpaste!
Flame-retardants are another very harmful item! These have a chemical structure similar to dioxins and PCBs. Read the rest of this entry »

Breast milk is also easier to digest. Many moms wonder why their infant has tummy aches and digestive problems while they are feeding them on formula. The truth is, breast milk has the perfect mixture of sugars, proteins, fats and antibodies which allows your child to get the right diet, and it aids in digestion. Formula lacks these compounds.
